Aug. 5th, 2009 06:02 amFun mailing list I found out about at OSCON: Help A Reporter, which is a three-times-daily email sent out containing a bunch of reporter queries looking for sources for articles on all kinds of stuff. I've forwarded some queries to a few friends here and there in the week and a half since I've been on the list, and answered a few myself! It's really entertaining just to read the queries, not to mention the chance of seeing your name in print, and it's pretty neat the number of queries that the "average person", with an average person's set of specialties, experiences, and random esoteric knowledge, can answer. The queries themselves are everything from "I need to put together a quick list of tips on $thing" all the way to "we're casting for this reality TV show".
(Of course, I keep looking at half the queries and thinking "I wish I could sign up to be notified when the article comes out!")
