Anybody want to teleport out here and make a Starbucks run on my behalf?

(Woke up at 3PM yesterday. Will be up until at least 3PM today, probably about 2-3 hours later, depending on how fast the last batch of seed accounts sell out. At least I get a two-hour break until the next batch goes on sale!)

And and ohmygosh that is exactly how I feel about FFX (and various other favorite series/games). I never really did much fandomy-things for it (reading, drawing, writing, whatever) because it was PERFECT for me. I've replayed the game countless times though, and even struggled with learning blitzball so that I could properly experience that minigame (and boy did I struggle...).

*snerk* See, my problem with blitzball was the same as my problem with Triple Triad: I'd spend hours just playing the minigame and eventually remember, oh, fuck, I was actually playing this game, wasn't I.

(Triple Triad in particular was not at all a kind thing to do to a recovering Crack: The Addiction player.)

But yeah. FFX was just so lush and gorgeous, and the story was so one of my bulletproof tropes, and the first time I played it, I got through the entire game in a week because I could not stop. I actually took a week of vacation from work when it came out; my boss understood completely, since he was picking up his pre-order copy the same day I did. ;)

Ohgod, Triple Triad is the biggest time waster in the history of video games. It's a bigger time waster than video games. I was replaying FF8 last year when the PS1 classic on PSN came out, and I had racked up 20 hours in game play and hadn't even gone on the first Seed mission. ...Because I was busy pilfering 20 Elnoyle cards from the President. /hangs head/ On the other hand, Squall now has his requirements to get Lionheart in the first disk! :D

You taking a week off for FFX and your boss understanding is possibly one of the best things I've ever heard in relation to FFX. That is amazing <3 <3 <3 <3

Yeah, that job had a lot of things wrong with it, but having a boss who was also a gamer was fun. (It was a server-monitoring job, overnights, 13-hour shifts, so I used to bring the PSX in with me and hook it up to the TV and play platformers all night when nothing was going wrong. *G*)

I, uh, may have done precisely that myself in FF8 before too. Heh. Not to mention playing Zell's mom endlessly, and saying very rude things about her.

It sounds like at least when-nothing-was-going-wrong, the job might have been fun! :D :D :D

I...cannot really recall what I ever did with FF8. I got pretty busy with school during my last replay so I never really did end up going on that mission to Timber. Triple Triad and junctioning is probably the most fun I ever have with FF8.

JUNCTIONING.

Everyone in my gaming group hated the junction system. I loved it. They'd bring over their save files, hand them to me, say "work out the optimal junctions", and I would sit down and happily fuss for two hours and return the save file with all the sets properly set up.

(I am also the one to do all the Persona fusions in the Persona series, *G*)

AHHH SOMEONE ELSE WHO LOVES JUNCTIONING. Most of the friends I have who play FF8 play it because they like the story and characters. I...didn't like the story or the characters so much (bar Laguna haha), but I was in love with the junctioning system. And Triple Triad, of course. BUT JUNCTIONING. I love how you can deal over 3000 damage at level 1 when you junction properly. It's so cool. *3*

(I can't seem to get into the Persona series! Is the fusion system similar?)

Not so much similar to junctioning as, you have to spend lots of time working out the optimal configurations to fuse two Personas together to make a third, etc. I love that kind of fiddly little stuff.

If you're curious, though, i wrote an entry about why P3 is so awesome in my personal journal a while back: Fandom Pimping: Persona 3. The mechanics/gameplay are awesome, the storyline is like, made for me and my fictional hotbuttons, and I love the gender balance and the variety of characters you meet in the game.

That's actually pretty cool... maybe I'll go back and give Persona another chance. ;; I tried playing the Portable version (P3P??) and it was so slow at the beginning that I lost interest pretty quickly.

AND ALSO I totally didn't realize you were synecdochic! I think I saw your name around fandom!LJ a lot before...

Yup! That's me :) (I split "work" vs "personal" way back when I was working for LJ and didn't necessarily want my boss reading my queer porn; the division is useful now because it makes it really clear when I'm speaking for DW and when I'm not.)
