I generally don't like to put stuff toplevel in news specifically in response to LJ fail, unless it's really huge because that just reinforces the perception of DW being only the place for people to go when they don't like LJ anymore and we're trying ot move away from that. (It is difficult sometimes. There was a comment to the news post that had me cracking up: "Nobody markets Dreamwidth like LJ does.")
But, I'll do toplevel in dw_news if there are major policy questions raised; this isn't so much a policy question as a question about future development, though, and that's something I prefer to leave off until the future development becomes reality.
Another reminder where to go look for/pimp (new) comms - with LJ's latest loveilness a lot of my circle are making a more concerted effort to shift over but none of us really remember where to look for new places to go here - would be very handy.
Hee. We do want to enable crossposting with more sites, FB and Twitter among them, but I don't know who in the hell thought it would be a good idea to let people crosspost comments to other people's locked stuff. When we add FB crossposting, you'll need to set it up for your account, and if we do allow xposting comments (which I doubt we will -- I know plenty of people who want to xpost their entries to FB, but I've never heard people asking to xpost their comments) there, uh, will kind of be a check to make sure that comments can't be xposted if they're on locked entries that the commenter didn't post.
What really squicks me about it is that people aren't given the option to not allow crossposting of comments on their entries, f-locked or not, or replies to their comments on other journals.
Yeah, I know there's such a thing as ctrl-c-ctrl-v, and if someone really wants to tell the whole world they commented on my smut fic or whatever the lack of a tickybox is not going to stop them but still, making it that easy is just gross. >:/

I sometimes post comments that're longer than entries. A lot of the time recently I've had people say "you should just copy that into a post" or similar.
I definitely want the *option* of posting links to my comments now I know it's doable, but definitely not on locked stuff, that's Just Wrong.
I now have another idea for a Suggestion though, but not at 3am...
