What was really cool was the first time I followed a link to a story on a Big Bang that had a master post on LJ linking to many parts, but with the Dreamwidth link the whole 40k+ words fit in one entry here. \o/
Hee :D I have to say I love this place, it's completely userfriendly and I've moved over here with a paid account and plan to stay. Of course, the awesomeness of crossposting does help that considering so many of my flist is still at LJ. I can have best of both :D
I do a little cheer every time I realize I can put a new user in my DW-donotread filter on LJ. Because so many of my flist are posting *here*. Your baby's amazing and great!!!! :)
:D I was so pleased the other day when I realized that out of my 30+ open tabs, none except my reading list on LJ were, in fact, LJ entries - but 15+ were showing a pretty red spiral. :D :D
Sure they are! When I get off my arse, I'll be cloning my fic journal over here, too. Already I'm doing all my everyday posts from DW, crossposting to LJ.
I finally finished importing all my fic (had to do it by hand since I moved it from a personal journal on LJ to a comm on DW. But. All pretty and organized now!) and am starting to write new fic. That is posted here.
Seriously, the fact that I am comfortable posting my fiction here is one of the great gifts Dreamwidth has given me. I haven't said it to you before, but I probably should: thank you, Denise (and Mark and everyone else who's devoted time and energy to making Dreamwidth a reality), because y'all have returned fandom to me, and you have no idea how much that means to me.
I keep getting bunnies for massive novellas of ridiculous fic, and where else would I post it but Dreamwidth? You can fit up to 50k or thereabouts in a post! That is AWESOME! No more splitting into several posts *victory dance*
Well, you, Mark, and all the volunteers make it a very cozy place, where your user feel comfortable & at home. Dreamwidth is an environment where I enjoy posting my content, be it some unimportant silliness or one of my most dear fanfics, because I have the impression that even if the people of "DW central" don't share my particular fandoms and interests, they still value me as a person and respect my content.
In addition, your "baby" has some really strong & unique "selling points" compared to other blogging services out there. Two-level-friending, word limits, comfort open-ID, importer... I really hope - not only for you all - that it takes wings & soars high. :)
I have a question, too... if you're too busy, I'm sure someone else who watches you will help me. My question is this: to link to a Dreamwidth user in an entry, you use [user=USERNAME], right? And there is a way to link to users from other sites using LJ's base code, right? How exactly does one go about doing this?
It's a bit of a no-no to use comments in denise's journal for tech support questions. The only reason I say this is that there are tens of thousands of people using the site, and only one Denise! It's also hard for staff to keep track of questions if they are posted in comments scattered all over the site.
That's why we have an official Support system, where you can look up information in the FAQs or ask a question of the team of volunteers. Start from this page: http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/, and from there you can follow links to information like this: http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=87, which will tell you how to link to another Dreamwidth user or someone on another site. If you're still not sure what to do, use the Ask a question link on the Support page.
Oh, and if you'd rather not use the official Support system, try getting_started, an unofficial community where it's ok to post questions informally and get some help from volunteers.
