Who's got stuff for the update?

Meanwhile, I'm on the lookout for Dreamwidth users who have Etsy shops -- it doesn't matter what you sell, as long as it's handcrafted of some sort. I'd like to put together a showcase of DW users' creativity -- it's really easy for us to show off writers (of both fiction and nonfiction) on DW, since the tools we have for sharing and promoting writing are fairly well developed, but [staff profile] mark and I always wanted DW to be a place to showcase all kinds of creativity, from writing to craft to photography to just plain chronicling your life, and I'd really like to start doing some work to promote the non-written forms of creative work our users get up to.

([personal profile] sarah and I are faultlesspajama, at the moment containing entirely jewelry. I've been looking for good beads to make Dreamwidth earrings -- alas, still haven't found anything!)

I'm rolling out my Artfire shop this weekend. Delivered will be selling custom envelopes, hand-made bubble mailers, and other sundry postal service shenanigans.

How exactly would you want these Dreamwidth beads to look? Just sayin' (I have the elephants in progress, by the way).

Speaking of the Tropo swirl - is there a larger version of it around somewhere? I'd love to bead that, too, and the one at the top of the menus is too small for my beadwork program to work with... *g*

Related: have submitted suggestion for Etsy as an external site. Afraid you will have several suggestions from this particular go-round waiting.

Did you suggest adding new profile linky fields? Because I was going to submit that one for a couple creative sites (Flickr, Etsy, Artfire, Ravelry), but I don't want to add duplicates to the queue.

Included profile linky fields for Etsy; there's also a previous suggestion about profile linky for Ravelry. Not sure about the others.

Eggcelent.

It shouldn't be too hard to add in more linky fields if the powers-that-be or the masses want them so I'm content with your suggestion.

I have an Etsy shop - Arkadian Dreams. I make clothes and jewellery for ball-jointed dolls in all sizes from tiny-sized 30cm Volks YoSDs up to 60cm Super Dollfies and 70cm DollShe dolls. All clothes are hand-sewn and finished, and all jewellery is sterling or fine silver set with precious or semi-precious stones.

I have an Etsy shop Gimpworks but I haven't taken the pictures to get the stuff up for listing yet. I have a show in November, and I should get photos before then.

Mostly I make fabric pouches out of either satin, brocades or silk, or handbags. I also pour beeswax candles, crochet string bags, and make beaded necklaces.

I just have camera fail...

Dreamwidth meets beadweaving

[personal profile] weaverbird 2010-09-30 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
All this talk of Dreamwidth+Etsy got me to thinking and, well, one thing led to another and I got playing around with my beading software and beads, and this happened:

Click to embiggen.
Peyote stitch in 11/0 beads. It's a hair over 1.75" wide.

I've already made it into an icon, as you can see. *g* Icon is free for anyone who wants to use it. Please credit Weaverbird if you do. Thanks!

Ooooh. And well-suited for amulet bags, too. (Guess what I do to stay sane while answering calls about people's credit cards.)

Oh now, that's a GREAT idea! Would you like the chart for this? I've got it in PDF format - bead chart plus word chart. I can email it to you, if you want. *g*

That would be awesome! I haven't worked amulet bags in tubular peyote before (the method I was first taught starts flat, working sideways, and then you zip the sides and sew the bottom), but I think I've got the idea down in my head (tubular, work vertically, zip bottom), and I'm looking to get started messing with actual patterns instead of solid colors with embellishment or the one striped one I've made.

*starts plotting how one might decorate them*

Yay and thanks! It was such fun making it and I'm happy to share the glee.

I think your idea for a Dreamwidth team at Etsy is great. I'd be all over that in a heartbeat.

In fact, this whole push to expand/enliven the artisan community here on DW is made of awesome. My LJ is/was chiefly fannish, but since I've been here I've been connecting with folks in a much wider spectrum of interests.

Yo. Sunbow Gems at sunbowgems. Also Sunbow Gems at elliemurasaki, but that's for QUILTBAG (queer/questioning, undecided, intersex, lesbian, trans, bisexual, asexual, gay) pride stuff only, and I haven't made any yet. (ETA: Screw it. It's all going in the one shop. I'm feeling optimistic.) Selection is kind of sad and pathetic at the moment, but I've got a few seventeen more things ready to list soon's I take pictures and I've got lotsa beads in a FedEx box coming my way so really I just need to sit my ass down and make a bunch of earrings.

I was just thinking that having a Dreamwidth team would be awesome? Did that ever happen?

And, by the way, my Etsy shop is Rogue Crafter's Studio and I sell handspun yarn and other fiber arts.

If I knew how to do the team thing, I might be willing to take some of that on...
